Academic, occupational and sporting excellence is our goal.

Personal Bests

Having secured specialist school status, Broad oak benefits from additional funding which means we can provide first class sporting facilities and an excellent learning environment for all. But our commitment to ambition, effort and excellence extends beyond sport as we remain a comprehensive school and are determined to secure the very best educational outcomes for all our students. We give students every opportunity to discover and exploit their talents and achieve personal bests in all aspects of school life.

So much more than a sporting chance
Whilst Broad Oak is a specialist sports college we provide a broad and balanced curriculum designed to fully equip students for a successful life after school. This means a strong focus on academic achievement and increasingly, the development of work related (vocational) skills. Such a broad curriculum, backed by a dedicated teaching team and excellent resources, means we can help secure the best from every student.
The culture of sport underpins everything we do. Sport encourages personal achievement, discipline and effort, whilst promoting team spirit and fair play. We apply that same culture to academic work, encouraging students to work hard in order to progress, beat their personal bests and achieve all of which they are capable. It is an approach which makes sense to our students who can relate the success of their sporting idols to their everyday school life.
This strategy, coupled with high quality teaching, a disciplined environment and excellent facilities mean each and every student enjoys more than a sporting chance to achieve their full potential.

  Out of school activities
As well as being a specialist sports college, Broad Oak has held the Sportsmark since 2001. This Government accredited award “rewards and recognises a school for its out of hours sports provision and a broad and balanced PE curriculum.” We are proud of our Sportsmark success and continue to develop a wide range of out-of-school activities which may be designed to develop teams to enter local and national competitions – or simply be for fun!

These include:
• Football – boys and girls
• Cricket
• Volleyball
• Netball
• Basketball
• Tennis
• Rugby
• Dance
• Table-tennis
• Trampolining
• Badminton
• Overseas Skiing trips
• Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions
• Study skill weekends

Participation in out-of-school activities is recognised at our annual and highly popular Sports Presentation Evening where students from all clubs are rewarded for their effort, ability and dedication.
